BECOMING A THRILL SEEKER

by Joe Plemon

David Robertson, a self-described “thrill seeker”, shares the following story:

“I am a thrill seeker. I don’t skydive, bungee jump or swim with sharks. The thrills I seek as a pastor are slightly different. I seek thrills like going on what I call “search and bless” missions.

From time to time, I stumble across a single mom with three kids and a car with threadbare tires. The thrill I seek is to be able to borrow her car to run an errand. The errand is to drive down to the local tire and lube express and have the oil changed and new tires put on. On the way back I fill it up with gas and run it through the car wash. Then I hand her the keys and don’t say a thing about it.”

Are you a thrill seeker? Would you like to be? Week after week I give you hints and advice on the “hows” of being smart with your money, but I would be remiss if I never challenged you with the “whys”. I want you to win with money, not simply so you can accumulate wealth, but so you can help others. In fact, if you do everything I teach and win big time with money but never use it to help others, then you have not won.

The way you use your money is indicative of your value system. Anyone who looks at your check register could learn much about your values. Most of us (myself included) tend to be selfish, but most of us inherently know that true happiness only comes by helping others. The thrill comes when we actually do what we know to do.

Ebenezer Scrooge finally became a thrill seeker toward the end of his life, buy why wait? Get focused today. Free yourself from the bondage of debt so you can have the cash flow to become generous. Your life will take on an entirely new meaning, and you will thrill at the exhilaration of helping others. In fact, you will become a thrill seeker!
